City PlaceDía de los Muertos celebrations are thrice the fun at City Place in Spring, where a three-day festival beginning Oct. 28 will take over the waterfront plaza and park. A series of activities focused around the Mexican holiday also known as Day of the Dead, which honors loved ones who have passed on, is planned for Houstonians of all ages.
Located at the axis of the Grand Parkway, Hardy Toll Road and I-45, the picturesque north Houston development spans 2000 acres and draws visitors from all corners of the city. City Place is home to major corporations and residential enclaves, complemented by miles of trails connecting a 150-acre nature preserve, with amenities including three Marriott hotels and a Star Cinema Grill dine-in theater.

The weekend's festivities kick off on Friday, Oct. 28 with an intimate Black Dinner on the plaza, where Houston-based chefs Arnaldo Richards of Picos and Omar Pereney are collaborating with Mexico City's Luis Robledo Richards of chocolate shop Tout Chocolat and Atzin Santos of restaurant Limosneros on a four-course wine dinner. A cocktail hour before the dinner will feature live music and intricate "Catrina" skull face painting. At sunset, a candlelight procession will be led by mojigangas to unveil a traditional altar. The ticketed event is limited to just under 100 people, with seats available for $150 per guest.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the City Place Plaza will transform into The Mercado from 1 to 5 p.m. The free event open to the public will feature Latin folk art vendors and artisans showcasing art, jewelry, clothing, handcrafted ornaments and more; plus music, face painting and kid-friendly activities.
In the evening, it turns into a party on the plaza, as the public is invited to Calacas & Cocktails from 6 to 9 p.m. The event, featuring a margarita cash bar, live music and entertainment, plus another candlelight procession to the altar, is free for all to attend. Spring for the VIP experience for $30 per guest and score two speciality cocktails and a floral crown and candle kit for the procession.

The Día de los Muertos event at City Place will conclude on Sunday, Oct. 30 with a family movie night, complimentary face painting and kids activities.
